Gwen Bell Dot Com | Heart of the Start / How to Get What You Want

gwenbell - Yes to all of the above, Amrita. Guy Kawasaki has inspired scores of budding entrepreneurs and getting to spend some time with him, if briefly, in his backyard...well, his enthusiasm is contagious offline as well as on. Hadn't heard of Anita's book but will check it out. Thank you for recommending it, chica!

Reminds me of another, less honest story about a friend of ours in Japan. He'd been in Japan 7 years and was making BANK. Every time he went to meet with a prospective client (usually a team) they'd take him out to dinner. He'd pretend like he didn't know how to use chopsticks. They'd teach him and felt the trill of showing a gaijin something about Japanese culture. Moral to the story? A half-truth in order to win people over may not be right for everyone, but it can certainly empower your audience to teach you something. Plead ignorance and let people teach you about their craft...who knows, you might actually learn something!

Thanks again for jumping into the convo and I look forward to continuing it in the months ahead.

Lots of voices have to address it. Ours are but two and yes, I believe they matter very much.

Way cool. And that there's a way through as long as we're determined to mutually support and uplift one another other. And yes on the Women in Buddhism episode. I believe I took a bit of flack for that b/c I used too many generalizations and blanket statements...it was earlier in my podcasting days and I just said whatever was on my mind. I really try to reign in my speech and go about it as mindfully as I can now. Getting fired up is good...it's resorting to finger pointing and name calling that is problematic. Every conversation about this, had out of and spoken with, compassion, is a step in the right direction.

IntenseDebate Blog / IntenseDebate is Back!

josh - Hi Donnacha, All good points. Im am sure the ID guys are listening. One thing I would add is that it isn't good for anyone if someone just comments for a link. There has to be a way to balance inspiring good comments and discouraging commenting just for the link. Again, all good point. I think you will see ID continue to experiment with different interfaces. The publisher has quite a bit of control over how things are displayed on their site, so maybe your suggestion could be made into an option for the blog publisher in the future. Cheers!

Just to clarify, I was being playful with the Lizzie bit. Of course I know it's Izzie. Just wanted to state this before anyone Posts this: "Lizzie?!? It's Izzie." I was trying on humor to deflect an angry reader's correction. I'm just a lowly average audience member excited about my favorite tv shows....

Beyond Dante / Real Example of the Power of Social Media

gwenbell - Ok, good points, all. And I've read about 12 blog posts on this + followed the convo since late last night after the PBJs in your PJs wine tasting party w/@greeblemonkey. This is what I want to know: when the sentiment is so bad, what is a company to do? If the sentiment is angry and it flares up fast, how can a company respond without being in a _reactive_ mode? Is pulling the ad necessarily the right move? And if it's not, what's the right action here? A vocal community of passionate people is not necessarily your _baseline_ is it? Thanks for participating in this dialog...I'm really interested in Brand Band-Aids for this one...
