Ma: if you're reading this, the above post proves that this issue cuts both ways. Liberals can be just as vicious and inflammatory as conservatives. While I don't like Beck either, I see no value in asserting that he was raped by a pig. It's the meanness and mindlessness that is so damaging. That and the problems stated in the flawlessly written article above: people from both sides don't want to make the world a better place; they just want their side to win, and to feel that they've chosen and been accepted into the smarter, more clever team. Don't you wonder what's REALLY going on? And do you think ANY of these news agencies knows or would be willing to tell us without bias? No, the guy who wrote the article is certainly right: the news folks want MONEY. They get that from advertising. Advertisers respond to higher ratings; higher ratings come from better entertainment; drama is more entertaining than the straight story. We'll never know the truth; but some piles of BS smell worse than others. Charlie

As I understand it Mr. Beck has failed to provide any of his DNA. If he didn't rape and kill this nine year old girl, why does he refuse to deny it? I read somewhere that as a child beck was raped by a barn yard animal (it could have been a pig). I have no idea if this is true, but it might explain the way he is. Mr beck could certainly silence these rumors by addressing his audience to refute these allegations. Perhaps, he can provide some proof that he is not a child rapist and murderer. His silence on this issue is deafening!!!!

Of all the places where such a comment could have the most effect, either stirring debate or eliciting adulation, a post made on an obscure blog almost six months ago dealing with the hackneyed politicizing of a single episode of a television series is perhaps the worst. At least you can take solace in the fact that you wasted precious little time or energy on the content of the comment. However I have nothing better to do at the moment, so... I never said that government was de facto beneficent. I never explicitly defended Obama or his policies. I addressed the striking similarities between the clumsy political allegory of the episode with the clumsy political narrative of the "tea party" style pundits. Nothing you have said seems to have anything to do with what I wrote. If you want to get into a debate about whether America today is analogous to revolutionary Russia or the Fascists power, or whether the state is necessarily a hindrance then there are better places for that, better people. I imagine that the same type of arrogant patronizing commentary was rife in Italy and Germany in the early 30s and in Russia in 1917. Even paranoids have enemies! Maybe you actually believe people when they say, "I'm from the government, I'm here to help you." Balderdash! Name one institution that is responsible for more death and destruction than government.

With a combination of a vocal and monied minority pushing the country farther right and a global economic crisis there is some cause for concern about America's political future. But I am a hopeless optimist. I have to be to stay sane. In recent history America has seen the pendulum swing many times and lived through many economic busts with the status quo more or less intact. Never underestimate how tightly the majority is willing to hold on to the present regardless of how much they might want things to change. It certainly continues to amaze me. So perhaps the political apathy that holds us back from making drastic changes for the better will save us from drastically changing for the worse.
