I happen to think Broadway shows don't leverage it enough to encourage social spread of their productions. If traditional marketing and promotion is changing, shouldn't the way theatre is promoted change too?

Bryan Person - When \'just the facts\' blogging works just fine

Thanks for the comment, Sharon, and for the inspiration for my commentary. I don't think has to be an either/or question, actually. Fact-based blogs have their place, as do opinion/analysis-based blogs. And so, too, do those that mix it up. As I noted in my audio commentary, most of the bloggers I choose to follow added their personality and opinions (sometimes strong ones) into their writing most of the time, and I do appreciate them for that. I just don't we can be dogmatic about what works and work doesn't. Loving the discussion!

Sharon Mostyn - When \'just the facts\' blogging works just fine

Thanks for including me in your post Bryan! I appreciate your contention that facts-only posts have their place and agree that the iPad (or other breaking news) example is valid. However, my point is that if you're just stating the facts, why should I go to your blog as opposed to any other website? By adding your "story" and/or analysis of the facts, it presents you as a subject matter expert and gives authority to your posts. So let's poll your readers - leave your comment below supporting "just the facts" or "facts/stories/analysis" blog post style - if the majority of readers want just the facts, maybe I'll be convinced to change the way I write my blog! Thanks for bringing to light such an intriguing topic, Sharon

I was impressed by some of the comments I read in one of the posts (I don't remember which one) from breast cancer survivors, who clearly took this to heart. The passion/heated discussion quite took me aback. But the point you raise about breast cancer awareness in January when we're freezing our butts off is a really good one. What I'd like to see (and I think a couple of my tweets reflected that) is someone taking advantage of this awareness to move people to action - if it's nothing more than getting women to commit to monthly BSEs, starting an online group that checks in with each other regularly - whatever. Awareness is wonderful, but it needs to move people to action (the whole "outcome" thing I like to talk about). Otherwise it's a blip on the radar screen. Good on you for bringing a rational voice to the discussion.

Your point is right on the mark. Aflac once approached Ben Affleck to do a TV spot with the duck -- the day before he was due to appear on one of the late-night shows. Ben turned down the offer immediately and thought it was strange - so strange that he mentioned it on whatever late night show he was on. And it was worth millions in free publicity. Who gives a rat's ass about what application or what month or what channel is used to raise awareness of a disease that kills thousands of women per year? I would love to debate this one -- go ahead, make my day. And you go, girlfriend. I blame the press for this idiotism mostly, but there is just the lack of common sence and education as well... The 3rd millennium started in 2001, not 2000. I often have similar concerns when someone asks me to set them up for a social medium. They have to put up with my spiel about the 'care and feeding' part before I proceed.
