Writing this from Canada: The general feeling (and current policy) here is that the F-35 is an enormous waste of money, and we should go with something else, so the government will conduct a competition once they have developed a set of criteria. We don't really have money to waste on the F-35, as we are a much smaller country in terms of the population and the economy. As for the A-10, it would have been nice for Canada to have had some of its own A-10's in Afghanistan, where our troops took a lot of casualties while deployed to the Kandahar region, which was the heart of Taliban country.

I am at a complete loss to elxpain how corrosion could be that bad, that quick. It certainly has nothing to do with the use of aluminium, this has been used extensively for years in shipbuilding without any major problems. I doubt it has anything to do with Austal as they are one of the foremost users and experts in design and use of aluminium alloys in ship construction in the world. Further the material has been widely used over the last 30-40 years in naval construction and used in dissimilar material construction (ie. steel hull and aluminium superstructures) as well. All I can say is, did someone forget about galvanic corrosion, the scale of nobility and sacrificial zinc anodes?
