As Rand's father proved, it is the full strength version which can succeed. And that was decades ago when it started. There are far more libertarians now than then. And they know what it is for the most part. They don't want low tax liberalism or conservatism. Rand has never labeled himself a libertarian; content to let others describe him as one, sort of. That is deliberate. Perhaps he's not. So I don't judge him by his father's standard. That being said Lucy's essay above makes the right points. Judged by a non libertarian standard, he's clearly better than the rest on war and peace. Not libertarian, but better. But it is impossible to rally the troops for an election by being "less bad" than the rest. Hence he tries to emulate the emotional fervor of his dad's supporters without having those principles clearly articulated (or even discussed, many times). If I ever had received ANY fundraising material which addressed "libertarians and conservatives" I might have donated. But no, none. Hence no donation.
