I agree with you on the last part of that. I DO agree with the writer that with most people, "They have little idea of worship in vocation, in family, in ordinary work or in silence." Good point. and actually something I have been thinking about lately. Much love :)

I don't think it's demonizing excellent musical performances as much as spurring on worship across the spectrum of our lives. Evenzombie like repetitious prayer misses the point by making worship confined to a \"quiet time\" or corporate worship setting. I think the post does have some validity in that when the word \"worship\" is mentioned, most people think of the music kind with a band playing whether live or recorded. And, I think that's an incomplete definition of worship and that's why I reblogged it.

How are we defining "Jesus shaped worship?" Are there problems within the evangelical church? No doubt about it. There is a lot of "church" that sickens me, but I think when we look to evaluate a big portion of the Christian church experience, it is helpful to remember that none of us are exactly unbiased. His form of Jesus is greatly influenced by his background, upbringing, social interactions etc. As are all of our perspectives. I am neither in favor of a "big show," as he put it, nor am I am favor of zombie like repetitious prayer. I think there can be a good mix with the two. One last thought. Why are we demonizing excellence in musical performance when that is exactly what many strive for in every other area of the Christ centered life?

Sara and Roy - I don\'t want to do anything big for God... | DNSLNS

Hey Dan, this is what I miss. to think outside the box when all I knew, all I was taught growing up was to walk straight & narrow. Get a job, make money, get married, have kids, buy house, work on being a leader in church & my accomplishment, the goal achieved was to know that I had the American Dream. But, something that Roy has always wanted is - what's wrong with loving God & living simple? The goal should be well done good & faithful servant. We don't have a big youth group or children's ministry. We attend a church that has no more than 60 people in it. But, if we change the life of 1 person if we someday find out that 1 teenager turned away from the devil & looked toward God because of something we said or prayed about or the mere fact that we took the time to be there and build a relationship with them - that is worth anything that I could ever do in my life or accomplish monetarily. Because we know that God is why we are here. Love you guys so much. Hope all is well and wish we could see each other. Keep in touch.

spanishlady - I don\'t want to do anything big for God... | DNSLNS

For me I think doing big things for God is futile. I mean God is so great and so loving that our attempts to do something great for Him is like filthy rags. Our righteousness on our best day, even if you act like Mother Theresa, are attempts or life styles that are dirty rags. We can never be good enough or worthy enough to ever do anything for God. The only reason we even get to have eternal life is because of Christ, period. Not because of our acts or motives. I do not mean we should disregard living in a right way, I do mean living the best you can because even though our righteousness is like rags we still have the burden to live making quality choices for our own well being and for the well being of others, but don't forget that we came from the ground and that we are fleeting at best. I think that when we forget how broken and frail we really are, is when we create a life of pride and arrogance. We turn away from our need of God. He has invested His own Son's life for us and that kind of unconditional love is supernatural and way out of my own understanding. I come undone of thinking that Christ loves us so much yet we still because of our flesh and human nature, sin. I know this is depressing, I struggle with this a lot, but it's the true. we are mere mortals, period. We are lucky to even have a Creator that calls us His children. Lucky and blessed.
