You're just in it for the hummus and pita chips. Evidence does point to the nonexistence of god... but in this case, existence is irrelevant. If a libertarian-ish person BELIEVES in that particular god and follows that god, then a conflict in philosophy still exists because that person is following a god that is (as far as I can tell) as authoritarian as you can get.

I think my problem, essentially, is that god does a whole lot of stuff (and demands a whole lot of stuff) that runs counter to my personal code of ethics and my anti-authority streak.

Jennifer - Offensively Delicious: God & Liberty

I didn't think that was offensive... I think it is better to question, then to never question at all. It is a little more complicated then that I think when it comes to Christianity because they believe in the Holy Spirit dwelling within a believer, while Muslims and Jews do not and that when someone accepts Christ (Gift / Done) they are "set free" and they are no longer a slave to sin or death. While other religions believe things must be done to earn favor or salvation from God (Do). I guess to Christians, because they believe in sin, they believe you will always have some sort of master over you (Sin or God) and in the nature we also have authority over us as a child and as an adult. I have to say as a Christian, I have a hard time with churches or committing to one because it is like a form of a government and sometimes they choose and pick things out of the bible to their liking. It also sometimes seems to me sort of a contest to see who can show they love God the best or is more Christian. Although I have no problem sharing that I believe in Christ, I am more private or inward than a lot of Christians.

Crazy_Ivan - Offensively Delicious: God & Liberty

The construct of God as depicted in the circles of organized religion is merely a tool. Actually, if anyone reads the Bible it should be clear to them that God is a real tool, but I digress. Kings and Queens throughout history used the concept of Divine Right as justification for their tyranny. You can oppose a Monarch, but a mere mortal cannot oppose God. If God wants a tyrant to be in charge, you'd better shut up and live with it. I think the very concept of organized religion exists for the sole purpose of empowering the clergy and dis empowering the people. Churches are an awful lot like government. They demand complete devotion, do a little song and dance, take your money and redistribute it as they see fit.

Amy - Laundry List

Laundry is on my laundry list for today. Monday is wash day, but monday was cold and rainy. Couldn't hang my wash out. Today is also cool and rainy. Grr. I guess I'll have to break down and use the dryer. I also have to rearrange and update my website. For the summer in general...I need to clean out the garage. We still have moving boxes in there from a year ago. Also, I want to increase my freelance graphic design business. Took the first step by using earnings to buy four weeks worth of ad space, yay! Onwards and upwards.
