I was born in Sta Ana in 1941. I arrived in NY with my family when my father was, like you, assigned to the Philippine Consulate, then located in the Empire State Building in 1953. He, too, was promoted to the Philippine Mission to the UN, and I fortunately have pictures showing Clare Booth Luce during that famous General Assembly when Nikita Khrushchev showed up and banged his shoe on the counter. I was not interested in the least in politics and was just tagging along from curiosity. My father's name is: Ambassador Librado D. Cayco, and he was Under-Secretary of Foreign Affairs under Secretary Mauro Mendez. I discovered this website since I am the only one of the family who is curious and now interested in Sta Ana, Pampanga. Daddy died in Phoenix, AZ on Friday, June 19, 2009. My mother is now 97.5 years old and is suffering from dementia. Is Pampanga much changed and in what details? I am writing a memoir and this is the least clear part of my life that I wish to re-discover. What town of Pampanga are you from? I think he was the father of Dr. Mina Yumul, who has a clinic on Sta Ana Stree (?) in San Fernando. Can you help me out? I was born in Sta Ana right at the beginning of the Pacific War. I would like to fill in this part of my life.

eK! - a kapampangan journal of ideas / [eK!] abel d soto: oh writers! | from electronic Kabalen, a pampanga-based kapampangan journal of id

Elsie - Hey Abel Soto, Enjoyed reading your tongue-in-cheek, irreverent outburst on writing and writers. I, too, am a writer, though an unpublished one. I started writing one day before I turned 70 in 2011. Am on the 2nd editing of my story, which may yet wind up to be a memoir since I take a lot of care to be accurate, dates, places, etc. I have noticed that I have a very good but not photographic memory, as details, triggered by something, turn up in my memory much later so I go back to correct what I have written and add the details remembered. What are doing now? Are you writing a novel, a memoir, maybe? I was born in Sta Ana in 1941. My family is not interested in talking about the war nor Sta Ana. Do you know when the Village Hall holding the birth certificates burned down? I only have an affidavit to replace the original. I would love to correspond with you to talk about Sta Ana. Is it part of San Joaquin?

The many essays that provoke critical thought. The care and respect that distinguish your editorials. Every article is a virtual springboard for civil social discourse. Even your comments pages are in themselves illuminating, lit by both bright voices and bright minds. It works (it certainly does for me), because I find neither pretense nor posture... just honesty. Count me as one who truly appreciates your efforts to bring - how do you peeps call it? - relevant Kapampangan Citizen Journalism to the fore. You have my support. Soto - Nice review! My thoughts? Here: So what was the fault in their stars? Nothing. None. Nada! Because even in their most imperfect moments, even in their most imperfect selves, and even in their most imperfect lives that they bravely and pragmatically tried to live to the fullest, they "found" "each" "other" and intentionally chose to see the stars rather than their faults...they chose to love each other so deeply despite the "faults" that their lives have transcended. And that is just OKAY! Okay? :-)
